* Led by NBA Scott Wedman, the NBA's Player of the Week, Kansas City won four straight games to break a first-place deadlock and move ahead of Milwaukee (3-0) in the NBA's Midwest Division. Wedman averaged 27 points per game during the week, hitting a career-high 45 in a victory over Utah, including nine points in the overtime set up by his buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of regulation.

In the other divisions, Boston, with a league-best .750 winning percentage, remained ahead of Atlantic rival Philadelphia; Atlanta lost two games but stayed comfortably in front of San Antonio in the Central; and Seattle (2-2) held onto its half- game margin over Los Angeles.

Chicago center Artis Gilmore, out for 33 games with a knee injury, returned to the Bulls lineup.Seattle's Fred Brown reached the 10,000-point career scoring plateau.
