The Alabama legislature voted unanimously to grant posthumous pardons for the 'Scottsboro Boys,' nine black teens wrongly convicted of raping two white women in 1931. The pardons now await the governor's approval.
Alabama immigration law: The 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals also blocked a part of the law that allows authorities to charge immigrants who do not carry documents proving their legal status.

Days before the Alabama law, designed to sharply curtail illegal immigration, was to go into effect, a federal judge temporarily blocked the measure in order to 'adequately address' challenges.
