A total of seven men have settled with Penn State over claims of abuse by former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. The school has spent nearly $50 million on the Sandusky scandal, not including payments to the victims.
Phil Knight, cofounder of Nike, changed his opinion after hearing the Paterno family's rebuttal to the claims that Coach Joe Paterno knowingly allowed Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of children to continue.
The former Penn State coach was sentenced Tuesday for child sexual abuse, but his lawyer says the conviction will be appealed. There is also the unresolved matter of civil lawsuits filed against Jerry Sandusky, his charitable foundation, and Penn State.
Even as Penn State tried to digest the severe NCAA sanctions imposed on its athletic program, the school's former president, Graham Spanier, says he 'hadn't the slightest inkling' about the systematic sexual abuse.
