The kidnapping of an Iraqi-American working with the US military in Iraq appears to have been sparked by a faltering reconciliation effort to bring a militant Shiite group into the political process, US officials say.
British hostage Peter Moore was released after 2-1/2 years in captivity in Iraq. He was among the last of 306 foreigners to be abducted since 2003. British officials praised their Iraqi counterparts' efforts in securing Moore's release.
The deal would be part of a reconciliation effort between Iraq's government and extremist Shiite groups.
