Twinkies may survive the Hostess Brands bankruptcy, the company says. Twinkies, the cream-filled golden spongecakes, already have piqued the interest of a few companies. Twinkies alone brought in $68 million for Hostess so far this year.
Hostess Brands, which makes Twinkies, is asking a federal bankruptcy court to throw out union contracts for its workers, a move that would prompt union members to strike. Hostess Brands filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year.
Twinkies, Wonder Bread, and other Hostess products should still reach consumers, the company says. Hostess blames labor costs, not declining Twinkies sales, for Chapter 11 filing.
