Some 10,000 workers at the largest US port returned to work Wednesday after an eight-day strike. The longshoreman's union says the deal prevents $87,000 per year clerical jobs from being outsourced overseas.
The holiday inventory is already in place, but goods for the post-Christmas sales are bottled up off the coast of Los Angeles, as container ships from Asia go unattended due to a six-day labor strike.
A strike has dramatically slowed activity at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach – the nation's busiest cargo complex – despite renewed efforts to end the walkout.
Occupy Wall Street protesters blocked gates at some of the busiest ports on the West Coast on Monday. The "Occupy ports" demonstrations are the Occupy Wall Street movement's biggest actions since being evicted from most of their tent camps nationwide.
