Applications for unemployment assistance are at their lowest point since May of 2007, months before the start of the 'Great Recession.'
Jobless claims rose by 19,000 last week to 348,000, the highest in about a month. But the four-week average, a less volatile measure, increased just 750 to 333,000, and the broader trend in jobless claims remains low.
