Stocks rose Wednesday after a German court cleared the way for that country to participate in a European rescue fund. The ruling helped push Germany's main stock index, the DAX, to its highest level since July of last year.
Strong performances from a handful of companies including Barbie maker Mattel, and Coca-Cola pushed the Dow Jones average up for only the third day this month. The closely-watched index closed up 78 points to land at 12,805.
The wait for an expected deal between Greece and its creditors hurt financial markets around the world, but US stocks only dropped slightly. The Dow lost 6 points to close at 12653 after being down as much as 131 points earlier Monday.
