Despair during this third Hamas-Israel war is so high on both sides that despair itself needs to be addressed. Recognizing it as a shared problem helps not only as a point of empathy but can dispel the notion of despair as destiny.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said a 24-hour holiday truce would go into effect at 2 p.m. local time, Sunday. But shortly after the truce was to have started warning sirens wailed in southern Israel and the military said three rockets landed in the area.
