New York | High-tech sentries
Half of America's northern border is defined by water, especially in states like New York. That means bridges serve as border crossings, equipped with sophisticated technology like radiation sensors. It also means the Coast Guard, with its tracking and surveillance equipment, is heavily involved in security. Water - in the form of rivers, lakes, and falls - also brings tourists. An estimated 13 million people crossed into New York's Niagara region from Canada last year.
