A PHOTO EXPEDITION

Michigan | Gateway of commerce
More goods cross America's northern border than its southern frontier. Sixty percent of the truck traffic and 80 percent of the rail containers entering the US come from Canada. Commerce is especially heavy between Ontario and Michigan. The Ambassador Bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, sees an average of 6,000 trucks a day coming to the US. A more relaxed way to cross: the ferries landing Algonac and Marine City, Mich. A one-way trip costs $6.
