Percy Newbery, Spofford, N.H.
Rose Lahman, Oceanside, N.Y.
Hear Percy's childhood connection to trains.
Percy Newbery and Rose Lahman started taking train trips together 14 years ago after they met in a support group for spouses of people diagnosed with Alzheimer's. A lifelong fan of trains, Percy introduced Rose to the rails on a 17-day trip across Canada. Now they estimate they have traveled together more than 20,000 miles. For them, train rides seal a bond of fellowship, and provide a way to share life's simple pleasures. Rose told us that Percy has a dream of living in Asheville, N.C., where the train tracks go right through the center of town. If he lived there, he would sit on his porch and watch trains go by.
