Dee Stollar (right) has a demanding job. She must serve more than 100 hungry riders during each of three sit-down meals a day, ushering them through quickly so that the next group on the waiting list can be served. But thanks to her fellow server and friend Pattie Golyer (not shown) her energy is well fed. The two met their first week on the job at Amtrak 13 years ago. They worked together out of Chicago as onboard service attendants and became close friends. After their first year, they were split, assigned to the same train line but on different crews. Each year, job positions come up for bid, and the two friends put in to be on the same crew. However, it wasn't until this past year that the two were reunited. "That is how we make our living, we smile and kid a little bit," Pattie says. And they strive to make personal connections - some lasting beyond the trip. "We've got lots of letters from people - millions. Well, when I say millions, I mean 50," Dee says with a laugh.
