Joyce and Pat Stagg
Los Angeles, Calif.
Hear Joyce's story of Amtrak's uneven service.

Hear Pat explain that he isn't afraid of flying, per se.

When Joyce Stagg had a business meeting in West Palm Beach, she wanted to bring her husband Pat along and turn the trip into an extended vacation. There was one problem: Pat doesn't fly. On a previous trip, she took the plane for a three-hour trip, while he took the train and met her three days later. This time they decided to take the train together – a first for Joyce. The experience engaged her business mind on how Amtrak could improve. She was pleasantly surprised by the level of service in the dining car and the quality of the food, noting that Amtrak doesn't market that enough. But she worries that Amtrak's tight budget is hurting service and stalling needed upgrades to the trains. Amtrak is missing opportunities to serve upscale travelers, she believes, noting that the trains could use more "frou-frou."
