Taking stock after the storm
Residents of coastal Pass Christian, Miss., returned to their homes, or rather to the sites where their homes had been, on Tuesday. Dispiriting scenes met them - severe damage, no electricity, and looters. Still, some vowed to rebuild. |

Residents say the devastation in Pass Christian, Miss., can be attributed to a storm surge that came with hurricane Katrina on Monday. Similar scenes dot much of the Mississippi coast, where thousands of houses have been destroyed.
