How to choose the realtor that is right for you

Whether you are buying or selling a home, one of the most important decisions that you are going to make is choosing the Realtor that you are most comfortable and confident with. Due to the high prices of real estate in many parts of the country, it will likely be the largest investment that you will make, which means your Realtor will need to be a valuable advisor for you throughout the process.

Probably the most overlooked aspect of choosing a Realtor is compatibility. You will likely spending a lot of time with your real estate agent and your ability to get along, communicate and share honest perspectives on likes and dislikes and what you can really afford will go a long way to you have a good buying or selling experience with your agent.

Often some real estate companies will specialize in certain types of real estate. For example some will list and sell properties based on the price range, and some will limit their business base to certain areas or type of properties (e.g. lakefront properties). Others will have staff that will handle each type of transaction in a broad range of prices and areas. It is important that you research the background and experience of the Realtor that you choose to work with to insure that they are knowledgeable for the price and area that you wish to buy or sell. Good questions to ask your prospective Realtor are about specific transactions that they have worked on recently and how they would market and price your property if they are seeking to be your listing agent.

There is a lot of time involved in buying or selling a property, and the Realtor that you choose will be involved with you over a long period of time. Your Realtor will have to be informed of some of your very personal financial information in order to provide you with best options for the purchase or sale. This person should come from a company that you have researched, but should also be a person you are comfortable with and feel that you can trust with personal information. It is helpful to ask friends and family for referrals as to Realtors they have used. What better recommendation than from someone that has a satisfactory experience.

When selling a home it is advised that you interview more than one Realtor. Realtors works for brokers and you will want to get a sense for the success of the company that will be behind you as well in terms their success rate, commitments to advertisement of your property, and all other efforts that they will be making to market your property and help you to achieve the best possible selling price if you they are handling your listing.

When buying a home there are some different factors to consider when choosing the right Realtor. You will want to be comfortable with their efforts to prequalify your ability to purchase. This is when you will be required to answer questions concerning your finances, down payment, and your expectations for your new home. Then your will want to judge how informative the Realtor is based on your individual options. For example, you will want to judge how well they understand your financial situation and the needs that you and your family have for the home that you will want to purchase. It is important that you are comfortable with your Realtor and that you can sense a genuine interest in what you want out of your home. Lastly, you will be looking for the experience and savvy of your Realtor relative to how they will be negotiating on your behalf. Many real estate transactions can be won or lost at the negotiating table and you will want to feel comfortable that your Realtor can keep your interests front and center but still fight for the things that are important to you and your family.

The entire buying or selling adventure is a very personal one as your home is the important place to you. Make sure to choose the Realtor that will assist you very carefully and be your partner and advocate throughout the process. Choose wisely and you will be much happier in the end.
