Indiana and North Carolina: a Clinton/Obama fundraising scorecard

As people go to the polls for the Democratic primaries in Indiana and North Carolina today, many have voted already with their checkbooks and credit cards.

Donors have been pledging money to Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton for months. And the latest tally of political contributions in the two states reveals the differences in their electorates and may hint at the final vote numbers.

The starkest difference comes in the sheer amounts raised by the two Democrats. Senator Obama, who has been setting records with his fundraising, has outraised Senator Clinton in both North Carolina and Indiana. That marks a switch from their totals in Pennsylvania, where Clinton actually raised more cash than Obama did through the end of February.

Carolina blue has more than a tinge of green for Obama. His haul blew away Clinton’s in the Tar Heel State through the end of March –  $1.7 million to $1.14 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan group in Washington that tracks candidates’ campaign contributions. The numbers are closer in Hoosierland, where Obama had raised $641,000 while Clinton had received $559,000 through March.

The donation figures reflect the poll numbers in the states to a certain extent. Obama has a good-size lead in many polls from North Carolina and is expected to win there, while most polls from Indiana show a closer race.

But when viewed through the Patchwork Nation filter, other differences in the donation numbers in both of today’s primary states emerge. These distinctions could be telling when the polls close.

The most significant may involve the “Monied ’Burbs” counties in each state. These counties are likely to be particularly important in Indiana if the race is close, as we said yesterday. How did these affluent suburbs break down in terms of contributions to each candidate?
In North Carolina, Obama owns the group – $1 million to $626,000 for Clinton. He outraised Clinton in each of the state’s six “Monied ’Burbs” counties by fairly large margins.

But in Indiana the “Monied ’Burbs” have dipped into their wallets more heavily for Clinton who received $150,000 versus $122,000 for Obama. Clinton won the fundraising fight in six of the seven counties touching Indianapolis.

That could be troubling for Obama. In Ohio, where Clinton carried all the “Monied ’Burbs” around Cleveland and Cincinnati on primary day (and won big in the state), she had a similar fundraising edge.

What accounts for the difference in the Carolina and Indiana “Monied ’Burbs”?

Some of those counties in North Carolina – Wake, Durham, Guilford, Forsyth – are in and around the state’s university and research region. It’s an area filled with educated college folks, a key Obama demographic.

The landscape is different in the “Monied ’Burbs” counties around Indianapolis, which are more similar to the affluent suburbs around Cleveland and Cincinnati.

The fundraising numbers indicate an edge for Obama with some community types. He raised much more money than Clinton did in Indiana’s “Industrial Metropolis” (big city) counties – $352,000 to $264,000 for her. He cleaned up in North Carolina’s “Minority Central” counties, which have higher concentrations of African-Americans – raising $142,000 to her $69,000.

In both states he also mined the wallets in “Campus and Careers” counties much more than Clinton did. In “Service Worker Centers,” too, he had a slight lead in fundraising.

For her part, Clinton beat Obama in fundraising in counties that tend to have more conservative voting records, edging his fundraising in “Tractor Country” (farmlands) and “Evangelical Epicenter” counties.

Perhaps her most consistent stronghold in the primaries, “Emptying Nest” counties, were again a reliable cash machine for her. She pulled in about $91,000 from those counties in the two states, while he received about $59,000.

    Dear Fellow Americans,

Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is and will face very critical and substantial “Challenges” in coming,
months, years, and decades to come.
It is very essential that we pick out our next President on following criteria in mind.

    1. A candidate with “Vision and Mission”.

    2. A candidate with ” Stable Character and Integrity” .

    3. A candidate with “Presidential Temperament” and
    “stable Judgment”.

    4. A candidate with “little “Washington” exposure” and
    “real connectedness with New Voters”.

    5. A candidate who “Inspires us up” rather than
    “Tears us down”.

    6. A candidate not based on sexism, racism, and ageism.

In my professional and personal opinion, the only candidate who has the above qualities and characteristics and is also cool, calm, and collected is Senator Obama.

As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last interest in Washington politics as usual and I stopped voting. Not a good idea under any circumstance particularly at present.

This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and
let Washington stay the same.We can not afford our Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are and can be.

We need to send clear and candid message to the world
and some 24 hour partisan hateful media. These media
outlets are trying to deprive, dupe, and derail us
from getting it right this time.

They are trying there best to deny us better rather
than bitter future. { Our Greatgrand Nations people
are persistently and constantly subjected to Psychological terrorism” without their knowledge thru these hateful partisan media outlets.

We Americans are should not and would not to allow them
psychologically terrorized, traumatized and silence us this time.

I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama our next President. let
us not get dragged down into racism, sexism and ageism.

Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of
family, friends, fellowships, faith, funds, foundation, fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without fear or favor.

We can not afford to lose any of above. Let us stand
up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand Nation for
centuries to come and regain our world economic, and power status back.

God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse people.

Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future stability, security, safety, sustained progress and restoration of our due status in this perilous Global World at the all levels.

    Yours sincerely,

In the landmark civil fraud case against Bill Clinton in Los Angeles, where the former President is charged with defrauding a Hollywood dot com millionaire to help Hillary Clinton obtain more than $1.2 million from him for her 2000 Senate campaign, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aurelio Munoz ruled on Friday, April 25 that Hillary Clinton would not be required to testify in a sworn deposition as a material witness in the case until AFTER the November election!

Rush Limbaugh And The New VRWC To Elect Hillary Clinton?

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh may have shown Friday that he is joining former Clinton arch-enemies Richard Mellon Scaife, Matt Drudge, News Max publisher Chris Ruddy, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity in either flat out supporting Hillary publicly, or providing a strategic media coverage of her and her campaign intended to help her more than hurt her chances to win against Obama and possibly regain the White House.

There is a news blackout of the Peter Paul v. Clinton case. Do a news.google.com search. Only bloggers write about it. The press will not touch it (even CSMonitor.) Clintonistas say that since Peter Paul had committed a felony, the case does not count. Well, the Clintons tried to get the case dismissed on that argument - AND LOST. The judge says there are sufficient grounds - and enough evidence - for the case to proceed to trial.

Here’s the HUGE, ELEPHANT-SIZED QUESTION: WHAT ELSE HAVE THE CLINTONS PREVENTED THE PRESS FROM REPORTING? (Only the press knows.)

Meanwhile, the Rezko trial is in its eleventh week. The prosecution finished a few weeks ago. The defense is presenting its case. The case will be going to jury deliberation very soon. Obama was mentioned twice, only peripherally - and not because he did anything wrong. In both mentions, Obama was among a long list of people who attended events. Yet, his name was splashed all over the press both times.

Murdock, Scaife, etc. are friends of Hillary. Is it any wonder we don’t hear about Peter Paul v. Clinton?

Many of the thousands of young people that Barack Obama has motivated cannot give money so they contribute time and effort. This will have a dramatic impact on the results.

I hope North Carolina and Indiana do the right thing and support Barack Obama, the only candidate who is trying to take the high road and run his campaign like he would run the white house- with integrity. However, it will be finally up to the superdelegates. Hopefully they will show courage, do what is right and not be taken in by the Clinton “electability” argument (code for “race should influence your decision”) and support the leader Barack Obama- soon. The younger generation who are the future of the Democratic party and this country are open minded. They support Barack Obama by a huge margin. Listen to the younger generation. They are the ones inheriting the massive problems created by the old politics. They are the ones who will need to solve the problems created by past generations.

Also, Hillary Clinton should not be rewarded for misleading the American people. We do not believe that she is fighting for us when she offers a gas tax gimmick that no economist will support. We do not believe her when she said she was simply tired when she told a story over and over about running from gunfire. We do not believe that she never supported NAFTA when it was her husband that brought it into being as President. Her husband did not tell the truth. Our current president does not tell the truth. We cannot afford another president who does not tell the truth.

Now is the opportunity for the Democratic party to show that they are the party of a new positive politics- the kind that Barack Obama is trying to re-introduce to us. This is the chance for the democratic party to expand their base of support, to include new Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans who support Barack Obama. While the opposing candidate and opposing party continue to try and use fear to push their agenda and divide the country, the Democratic party and the nation under Barack Obama’s leadership would become the party that truly represents and works for the good of all Americans and the country that works toward good in the world.
