Reader recommendation: Mao, The Real Story

I am deep into reading Mao: The Real Story, an incredible history of the tumultuous changes China has gone through in only 100 years – humiliating foreign intervention, terrible civil war, brutal invasion from Japan, disastrous attempts at sudden economic and social change with millions perishing in the attempt. What has happened in the post-Mao years of much-needed social and economic progress must be respected in view of all the destruction that preceded it.
