Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland beat an injured Rafael Nadal of Spain Sunday, to win the Australian Open and his first Grand Slam. He is the first man in 21 years to beat the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked players en route to a Grand Slam title.
Roger Federer reached the men's semifinals at the Australian Open tennis tournament, a record-34th time he had gotten that far in a Grand Slam event. However, longtime rival Rafael Nadal stopped him in straight sets.
Victoria Azarenka, the world's No. 2 ranked female tennis player, will face world champion Serena Williams in an exhibition match in Bangkok, followed by the real thing at the Brisbane International, in preparation for the Australian Open.
