Parts of Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Florida were under a tornado watch Tuesday morning. The storm system moving across the South, killed two people Monday, one in Arkansas and one in Alabama.
Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are forecast Monday for southern Illinois to northern Louisiana. Cities at risk include Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; Houston; Indianapolis; New Orleans and St. Louis.
Tropical storm Gonzalo is expected to become a hurricane by tonight or early Tuesday. The forecast track takes the storm over Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. But it isn't likely to hit Florida or the US east coast.
