The Christian Science Monitor - Centennial Celebration

Keep Printed Newspapers

By Joan Fitzgerald

I am almost 78 years old. I do use a cell phone and a computer. As a matter of fact I wrote rfps, evaluated replies, rewrote training manuals, trained users, and traveled the country trouble shooting for the first word processors and pcs for office use where I worked.

Instant access has its benefits. There are drawbacks however to eliminating newsprint entirely. There are still many people who, for whatever reason, do not have access to computers. Also, vision problems if the screen is not postioned correctly. Last, but far from least, you can read the entire story at your leisure, it doesn\’t disappear from the paper\’s database after a period of time.
