Future of Journalism
By Charles McCormick
Hopefully, there will continue to be some element in diversity with regards to national and international news. Small news sources, such as our humble TheOaklandJournal.com in New Jersey, are able to offer readers local news, as well as report on issues and topics utilizing Internet research tools.
The greatest threat to democracy will come from a lack of diversity with regards to news on a regional, national, and global level where small news sources are unable to provide responsible coverage.
On many topics , there is and always has been a “sharing”. We see national news sources visit our local website and rewrite material, just as we borrow ideas from other news sources. The big concern is when there is no one major news media reporting objectively on the larger issues facing our national and global community.
The country saw the results of a weak fourth estate as there was no questioning on the march towards war. The country is in serious danger as the number of news outlets capable of providing that service dwindles
