About We're Just Fans

"You can observe a lot by watching." - Yogi Berra

Sports. We love'em. All kinds of them. We've even played a few of them in our time. While we're not sports reporters, all of us who contribute to this blog are writers who are life-long sports fans. And we also believe that sports is about more than the box scores, the locker room interviews, and the contract negotiations.

We're looking for the those special moments in sports that come with understanding individuals, teams, even nations and the reasons they compete (or don't compete) in sports. Sports can be a door into the human heart, a key to the organized psyche. It helps us understand motives for excellence, grounds for virtue. It can also teach us about the value of morals in everyday life, or the bad things that can happen if we ignore those morals.

We like being armchair quarterbacks, coaches, and athletic directors. One thing that we've learned about sports fans is that they always have opinions and you'll certainly find those here. Whether you can kick it, throw it, run at it, jump over it or ride it, we hope that "We're just fans" can help you understand why doing it, and doing it well, says a lot not only about the game, but about the world we live in.

"We're just fans" is written by Ross Atkin, Jim Bencivenga, Daigo Fujiwara, and Tom Regan.
