Is Bahrain an oil state?

Bahrain was one of the first Gulf states to discover oil reserves and build a refinery. Although its economy depends heavily on oil, it was also one of the first oil states to diversify its economy. It is home to many multinational companies who are there to take advantage of its advanced communication and transportation facilities – and relatively liberal society. Unlike several other Gulf oil states, it is not a member of the Oil and Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
