Gordon Brown of Britain’s Labour Party has a long history of overseeing major economic issues, but that could also count against him. Time Magazine reports that earlier this year, before the Strauss-Kahn debacle, current Prime Minister David Cameron said he would block any effort by Mr. Brown to lead the organization. Brown “didn’t think we had a debt problem in the UK when we self-evidently do,” Cameron said.

Brown supporters say that his work with other European countries during the 2008 financial crisis make him a good choice, The Telegraph reports.
