Oil
South Sudan’s greatest resource is oil, and what to do with it is one the biggest issues facing the country. The oil industry will keep North and South Sudan reluctantly linked even after independence. While the oil is located in South Sudan, the pipelines that extract it, the refineries that process it, and the ports that ship it are owned by the North. Now, both countries have to decide how to divide the profits.
