McCain announces another run - proves you can campaign forever
Break out the plungers and get ready to chant, "Drill, baby, drill." John McCain is back.
Proving that one man can campaign for four years non-stop, the Arizona senator is running again.
Re-election
No, he hasn't announced plans for the presidential race in 2012. McCain loves campaigning so much, he's running earlier. 2010. He wants a fifth term in the US Senate.
“Being the Republican nominee for president was one of the great honors of my life and an experience I will never forget. Some have wondered, after my hard fought presidential campaign, if I plan to run for re-election to the United States Senate,” McCain wrote in an e-mail announcing his intentions, “I want you to know that I do intend to seek re-election.”
Obama
Whether he will ask Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin to join him in his senatorial run is unknown. Though it's pretty doubtful that Plumber will get a job.
After all, Plumber's busy being a GOP economic advisor. Plus, there's that alleged book he wrote which allegedly doesn't speak kindly of McCain. Plus, he might have his country singing career up and going by then. And what if another war breaks out?
Regardless, McCain's target is still the same: Barack Obama.
"While the leader of the Democratic Party, President Obama, has pledged to change business as usual in Washington and spoken of bipartisanship, I have been saddened to watch as Congressional Democrats try to use their majority to advocate more of the same failed policies and wasteful spending of the past," he said. "With so much at stake, now is not the time to step away from my work in the Senate."
Stimulus
There's no mention of Bill Ayers in the email. Nor was there a mention of possibly suspending his campaign to fly back to Washington, but he cited economic concerns as a reason to stick around.
“The economic challenges currently confronting our nation are immense and unfortunately, the Democrats in Congress propose addressing these challenges through increased spending that wastes billions of taxpayers dollars and saddles our children and grandchildren with a staggering debt. Their proposals will not stimulate economic growth or create jobs,” McCain said in the e-mail.
Back in the arena
McCain is the world record holder for appearances on Face the Nation. Last weekend, he appeared on the show for the 700th 68th time.
Said Bob Schieffer to the senator, "When Al Gore lost his run for president, he went to Europe and grew a beard. The first George Bush was knighted and started parachuting out of airplanes. Bob Dole made Viagra ads. And you just went back to work in the Senate. How are you doing?"
"I think the best cure for defeat is, as tough as it may be, is to get back in the arena," he replied. "I love what we do in the Senate. I’m honored to serve. I’m honored to represent the people of Arizona and have some voice in major challenges and crises that we face, both at home and abroad."
