4. Abu Ghadiya capture
On Oct 26 2008, Abu Ghadiya, a former lieutenant to Al Qaeda captain Abu Musab al Zarqawi and wanted by the U.S government for smuggling arms and foreign fighters into Iraq, was killed in an American helicopter raid on the Syrian side along the Iraq-Syria border. Syrians condemned the raid, which they said killed seven civilians. The U.S. maintained they had worked with the cooperation of Syrian intelligence.
