Representative Halvorson served one term before losing Tuesday to Air Force pilot and local tea party favorite Adam Kinzinger, a political newcomer. She had 43 percent of the vote to Mr. Kinzinger’s 57 percent.

In 2008, she won Illinois’ open 11th District (a swing district in Chicago’s south suburbs) in 2008 by a landslide: 58 percent over Republican Marty Ozinga’s 34 percent.
