Milano – who takes over for previous host Carolyn Murphy – boasts her own sports-themed clothing and jewelry line, Touch by Alyssa Milano. Her mother, Lin, is a fashion designer.

The former "Charmed" star will be the third host in as many seasons (Angela Lindvall had the inaugural gig).

Milano has a history with the network, where she starred in TV movies "Sundays at Tiffany's" and "Wisegal." The suddenly busy actress is also playing Savannah Davis in ABC's new summer drama, "Mistresses."

The competing designers from previous "Project Runway" seasons have yet to be announced. The previous winners of the spin-off series are Mondo Guerra and Anthony Ryan Auld.

Production on the Bunim-Murray and Weinstein Company program is slated to begin this month in New York in anticipation of a fall premiere.
