George Clooney is nominated for an award for Best Performance by an Actor for his turn in "The Descendants," writer-director Alexander Payne's first film since "Sideways." Clooney, who is also tipped to win the other major acting prizes, plays Matt King, a father struggling to take care of his daughters as his wife lies in a coma and a crucial land deal for his family is resolved.
