Pine cones for container plants

If you have pine trees in your yard, you have the perfect solution for preventing soil from leaking out of the drainage hole in the bottom of hanging baskets and other containers. Place a whole or partial cone (depending on size) in the bottom of the pot over the hole before adding soil. Pine cones are lightweight and will break down in a season or two, to improve the soil.
