Holiday gift guide 2010: Four TV and movie classics
We continue our effort to provide you with gift ideas this holiday season. In this installment, we're looking at classic movie and television show DVD collections. Earlier this week, we posted a list of "DVDs for the family" (see link below). If you decide to purchase a particular DVD, you might consider using the link below the item and help the Monitor at the same time.
1. The African Queen ($25.99)
"The African Queen" comes to meticulously restored glory this year in a commemorative DVD edition. Based on the 1935 novel by C.S. Forester, the combination of Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart as a missionary and a hard-drinking boat captain, respectively, locked in a story of adventure and romance was movie history magic. Extras include documentary "Embracing Chaos: Making The African Queen," plus a recording of the Lux Radio Theater broadcast of "The African Queen," and a reproduction of Hepburn's out-of-print memoir, "The Making of The African Queen: Or How I went to Africa with Bogart, Bacall and Huston and almost lost my mind."
