For Art Clokey's birthday, five great stop-motion shorts

In honor of Gumby creator Art Clokey, here are five of our favorite stop-motion short films.

4. The Sand Castle (1977)

In the Oscar-winning short, "The Sand Castle," Dutch-Canadian animator Co Hoedeman used foam rubber, wire, and lots of sand to create a wordless meditation on impermanence. A figure emerges from the dunes and begins to sculpt other creatures, who then proceed to construct a castle. Then the wind blows, and the castle vanishes.
