FaceTime, Apple's voice-chat service, now works on Macs.

Apple's Skype competitor just got millions of new potential users. FaceTime, once only available on the iPhone 4, has now expanded to include Macs.

The video-chat service can connect Mac to Mac or Mac to iPhone. Expect more devices to hop aboard soon.

“FaceTime makes video calling to or from mobile devices easy for the first time,” says Mr. Jobs. “We’ve sold more than 19 million FaceTime-ready iPhone 4 and iPod touch devices in the past four months, and now those users can make FaceTime calls with tens of millions of Mac users.”

The software requires OS X Snow Leopard (10.6). A beta test version is available for download at apple.com/mac/facetime.
