World Hong Kong police clash with street vendors, activists on Lunar New Year

When authorities cracked down on unlicensed street food sellers – who are a local Lunar New Year tradition – activists intervened, angry that Beijing's tightening hold over the semiautonomous city is destroying Hong Kong traditions.

Hong Kong's Lunar New Year celebration descended into chaotic scenes as protesters and police, who fired warning shots into the air, clashed over a street market selling fish balls and other local holiday delicacies, leaving dozens injured and arrested.
