THE BLIND SIDE: John Lee Hancock's sports drama, released on Nov. 20, 2009, and based on a book by Michael Lewis has been nominated for best picture as well as for Best Actress in a Leading Role. 'The Blind Side' is the story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.

The film takes place in Nazi-occupied France during World War II. A group of Jewish-American soldiers known as 'The Basterds' are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.

UP: Pete Docter and Pixar's animated adventure, released on May 29, 2009, is the first computer-animated film and only the second animated film ever to be nominated for Best Picture. 'Up' was also nominated for best Animated Feature Film, Music (Original Score), Sound Editing, and Writing (Original Screenplay). The film focuses on the adventures of an elderly widower and a young man as they travel to South America in a house suspended by helium balloons.
