Asia: South & Central ISIS claims Dhaka hostage-taking as Bangladesh tries to combat extremism

The United States and Bangladesh have promised more cooperation against violent extremism. Bangladeshi officials have been reluctant to acknowledge IS is active in the country, however. 

The taking of hostages by gunmen in Dhaka's diplomatic quarter is the latest in a string of attacks that have sparked international alarm and prompted the United States and Bangladesh to promise more cooperation against violent extremism in the Muslim-majority nation.
