The Lion's Mane Jellyfish is the largest known species of jellyfish, found in the Arctic and northern oceans. The largest specimen ever seen had a body seven and a half feet wide and tentacles 120 feet long.
Steve O'Shea, a curator at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in New Zealand, examines a giant squid. The rare giant squid, weighing nearly one ton and measuring eight meters in length, will be preserved for research. The largest giant squids may measure up to 43 feet long.
Explorer Zeb Hogan and locals are seen with an endangered Mekong giant catfish, native to Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. The freshwater Mekong giant catfish can grow to longer than 10 feet long.
The Blue whale is the largest animal ever known to have existed, measuring up to 108 feet long and weighing in at a massive 180 metric tons. Subsiding almost exclusively on krill, adult Blue whales can eat up to 40 million of the creatures in a day. This whale has been gathering food deep within the water column and reaches the surface with the throat pleats still distended, forming an enormous pouch. The whale is laying on its side, a pectoral flipper visible above. Within a few moments the whale will right itself up, expell the water, swallow the food, take several breaths, and dive again.
The Japanese spider crab is the world's largest arthropod, in terms of leg span, and can reach up to twelve and a half feet and 41 lb.
The whale shark, a slow-moving filter-feeder, is the largest living fish on Earth. they can grow to over 40 feet long and weigh over 47,000 lb.
The longest bony fish alive, the oarfish, is held by the staff at the Natural History Museum in Yorkshire, England. Oarfih can reach up to 56 feet in length.
A saltwater crocodile, the world's largest living reptile, lives in Northern Australia, the eastern coast of India and parts of Southeast Asia. Mature saltwater crocodiles can reach up to 2,200 lb and 20 feet long.
The sunflower sea star is the largest starfish in the world and can have 24 limbs. The sunflower's arm span can reach over three feet.
The ocean sunfish is the heaviest bony fish in the world. It can reach up to 2,200 lb.
The tiger shark is the largest ground shark, weighing up to 1,400 lb and measuring over 21 feet.
