Giant pandas ate bamboo at a zoo in Beijing in June. After a massive earthquake struck the Sichuan province of China in May, pandas were transported from their damaged reserve to Beijing. They were a part of a special Olympics feature and spent six months on a visit to the city. Panda populations are attacked by poaching and a loss of habitat in China. There is also a low birth rate for pandas. Conservation efforts have taken off in China and there are now 40 reserves in China, compared to 13 reserves just twenty years ago.
