

A new species of monkey found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is identified as Lesula (Cercopithecus lomamiensis) in this undated photograph. The monkey was first seen in 2007 by researchers John and Terese Hart of the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale Research Project. In Memoriam: Lonesome George, the last remaining tortoise of his kind and a conservation icon, died of unknown causes on Sunday in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. His subspecies of giant tortoise is now extinct. Although giant tortoises can live up to 200 years, he was thought to be about 100 years old. He died of unknown causes. Photo taken in February 2009.
