Here people get tattoos to express their personal beliefs, not just larger religious beliefs. They are often just for the individual, except for when the person is in a gang. Sometimes though, people get them just because they want to. I think this one was because he just wanted to, not because he was expressing something really important to him.

I took this photo in Ocean City, NJ. The boat is lying on the sand near the shore. I really like how even though the boat wasn’t in the water, the focus on the boat made the ocean look further away. The waves looked like they were coming toward the boat from far away.

This battlefront is being changed to a playground. A frozen depth in “Qurgha” full of destroyed weapons from the civil war is now being used as a playground by local boys.

I love and hate this man who sells me bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches from his cart at lunch. He makes sandwiches that I enjoy, but that also make me poorer and fatter. I know they aren’t good for me, but I want them anyway. My New Year’s resolution was to stop going to him as much, but I’m still buying bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches. My resolution is not working!

This boy is smiling because he's happy that he's sold most of his eggs.

The story is a girl focusing on her education. In Afghanistan, they don’t have the opportunity to do that. Although we both are Muslim, we are Muslim in different ways and we think differently. Many people believe girls cannot go to school because they are girls and not the men of the houses. But here she’s working on her education to better herself and her future.
