Biologist Scott Nicolai is working to restore the natural flow of rivers and creeks in the Yakima Basin of Washington State. Mr. Nicolai has helped tall grasses return to this meadow, which was once dry, by obstructing a creek and letting the overflow spill out into the flood plain. He obstructs the creek with logs, which slows the flow of the stream, providing a better habitat for fish and recharging aquifers used in farming.
