Mass Effect 2: Arrival, the downloadable coda to the Mass Effect 2 saga, goes on sale today. The game will be available on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Windows; the price is $6.99.

The plot of Arrival sounds pretty familiar: stalwart hero Commander Shepard marches off to the far reaches of the galaxy, in search of a missing "deep cover agent," and destruction and gunfire ensue. So how does the new Mass Effect 2 game stack up to the original? Well, thus far, the notices are good.

"What Mass Effect 2 fans will want to know of course, is whether or not they should buy Arrival," notes Maurice Tan of Destructoid, in a generally positive review of the game. "Do you really need it if you are a fan? Yes. Is it worth 560 points or $7? I think so." To download Mass Effect 2: Arrival, navigate to PSN, the Xbox Live store, or over to this BioWare sub-site. Mass Effect 2: Arrival, of course, is not only the finale for Mass Effect 2, but a stepping stone on the path to Mass Effect 3, which is expected to be released in the fall of this year. IGN.com has already predicted Mass Effect 3 will be one of the top games of 2011.
