Jon Rubinstein, senior vice president and general manager of HP Palm, introduces the HP Palm tablet, TouchPad, during the WebOS event at Fort Mason's Herbst Pavilion on Feb. 9, in San Francisco.

When Palm first unveiled its Pre smartphone several years ago, gadget-heads gushed. The hardware was powerful, but the software was the real star. Attractive and responsive, Palm's webOS was one of the main reasons HP purchased the company last year.

And what a lovely baby they've raised together.

Set to be released this summer, the HP TouchPad will run an updated version of webOS. It has a front-facing webcam for live video calling. The TouchPad will be running on a Wi-Fi connection along with Bluetooth.
