One of the intentions of the gathering – held on the same site and date that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his "I Have a Dream Speech" in 1963 – is to "reclaim the civil rights movement." As Mr. Beck put it: "This is going to be a moment that you'll never be able to paint people as haters, racists, none of it. This is a moment, quite honestly, that I think we reclaim the civil rights movement. It has been so distorted and so turned upside down. It is an abomination."
Critics contend that Beck and others are trying to "coopt" Dr. King's legacy.
What do you think? Can conservatives "reclaim" the civil rights movement?
