Papa John's, pictured above, has more than 3,400 restaurants in all 50 states and 29 countries. Save money on pizza and more by using coupons at restaurant chains this week.

It's supposed to hit 100 degrees in New York City this week. And while it's always balmy in Los Angeles, and Chicago only got its first taste of summer just this week, it's officially mid-July and thus, in our book, too hot to cook. But that doesn't mean you have to go broke eating out. These delicious food and drink deals from Buca di Beppo, Denny's, and Papa John's Pizza will keep your belly and wallet full.

1. Buca di Beppo Coupon

Discount: $20 off via printable coupon
 Expires: July 31

Is It Worth It?: If you've ever been to Buca di Beppo, you know this Italian eatery gets loud and rowdy, and serves extra-large portions for family-style sharing. With this printable coupon, you get $20 off any combination of two pastas, baked pastas, or entrees. It's good for dine-in only, and excludes pizza and lunch items, with a limit of one coupon per visit and per table. Taxes and gratuity are excluded as well. But there's no limit on how big an appetite you can bring with you.

2. Denny's Coupon

Discount: 20% off via printable coupon
 Expires: July 28

Is It Worth It?: Denny's is one of the capitals of American comfort food, and this printable coupon snags you 20% off your entire check, excluding taxes, gratuity, and alcoholic beverages. Ah, but where is the nearest Denny's? Just enter your ZIP code into this handy restaurant locator to find a participating restaurant near you. Then you can stop dreaming, and start scoring some Apple Pie French Toast, or BBQ Pepper Jack Country-Fried Steak. Mmmmmmmm.

3. P.F. Chang's Coupon

Store: Facebook
 Discount: $10 off
 Expires: August 31

Is It Worth It?: In the mood for something sweet and spicy? Head to a participating P.F. Chang's location with your $10 off coupon in-hand and you'll be Liking this deal twice over. (You do have to Like it once on facebook to get your $10 off coupon, which is valid on dine-in orders of $40 or more, and yes you'll be asked to fill in personal information.) This discount beats our February mention of 20% off takeout orders and is the best coupon we've seen from P.F. Chang's.

4. Papa John's Pizza Coupon

Discount: 50% off a large pizza via coupon code "CHOOSE50"
 Expires: July 21

Is It Worth It?: Why settle for an extra slice when you can chop your pizza in half (price-wise, that is)! What's more, this coupon code is applicable to additional pizzas (though you'll have to enter it each time). Feeling more like a meal? Opt for a large pizza and 2-liter drink for $10 (via coupon code "POST2L"), which we saw last month and is still available. Delivery and other fees may apply.

5. Omaha Steaks Summer Fun Pack

Store: Groupon
 Price: $54.99 with free shipping
 Lowest By: $64
 Expires: July 22

Is It Worth It?: Our cavemen ancestors hunted meat in packs; these days, we can hunt meat in fun packs a la the Omaha Steaks Summer Fun Pack, which includes two 5 oz. filet mignons, two 5 oz. top sirloins, four 4 oz. gourmet burgers, and one 16 oz. package of Omaha Steakhouse fries. And since we don't consider grilling *cooking*, you can pick up an even greater selection of Omaha Steaks bundles discounted up to 61% off.

What is the Monitor difference? Tackling the tough headlines – with humanity. Listening to sources – with respect. Seeing the story that others are missing by reporting what so often gets overlooked: the values that connect us. That’s Monitor reporting – news that changes how you see the world.

Dear Reader,

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”

If you’re looking for bran muffin journalism, you can subscribe to the Monitor for $15. You’ll get the Monitor Weekly magazine, the Monitor Daily email, and unlimited access to CSMonitor.com.
