Starbucks cup sleeves are stacked together in Mayfair, central London, earlier this year. On June 7, 2013, Starbucks is selling its iced coffee, iced tea, or Refresher for just a dollar.

It's Friday, National Doughnut Day, and Starbucks only charges $1 for some drinks. Can it get any better than this? How about a big price low on a Haier soundbar and wireless subwoofer, one of the cheapest (and coolest) Bluetooth speakers we've seen, and more in today's list of five Editors' Choice deals that we found overnight and early this morning.

Top Coffee Deal
Grande Iced Coffee, Tea, or Starbucks Refreshers Beverage
Store: Starbucks retail locations
Price: $1
Expires: Today
Do You Need It?: As if national doughnut day wasn't enough, Starbucks is running a promotion for an iced coffee, iced tea, or Refresher for just a dollar. Even though we saw other drinks for free last week, anyone who's ever ordered a grande anything at Starbucks knows that it's still a bargain.

Top Home Theater Deal

Haier 5.1 160W Sound Bar w/ Wireless Subwoofer
Store: TigerDirect
Price: $159.99 plus $4.99 s&h
Lowest By: $134
Expires: Today
Do You Need It?: Cyber Monday feels oh so long ago, but we remember that this soundbar system had a great price at the time. Now, it's actually $34 less than that day and definitely the best price we could find now. The 40" soundbar features an iPod/iPhone/iPad dock, 20 watts into six 3" drivers that combine to deliver left-, center-, and right-channel information, and a 2.4GHz wireless 40-watt subwoofer with two 3.5" bass drivers.

Top Audio Deal
Francois et Mimi Trois Bluetooth Speaker
Store: Luzy's Storage Place via Amazon
Price: $14.95 with free shipping via Prime
Lowest By: $45
Do You Need It?: Your musical tastes are très sophistiqué, so your speakers should be too. This fancy orb happens to be one of the least expensive Bluetooth speakers we've ever seen. It features hands-free calling, microUSB, and auxiliary input.

Top Kitchen Deal
Cool Gear 28-oz. Water Bottle with Freeze Core 2-Pack
Store: ThatDailyDeal
Price: $4.99 with free shipping
Lowest By: $20
Expires: Today
Do You Need It?: After a long run in the hot sun, the last thing you want is a swig of lukewarm water. (Well, except maybe milk, milk would be a bad choice too.) Keep your water cold as ice with these two 28-oz. bottles, each with a freezable stick and pull-top sipper. You're paying $2.50 a bottle, when just one would typically cost about $12.

Top Laptop Deal
Refurb HP Core i7 Quad 17" 1080p Laptop w/ 12GB RAM
Store: eCOST
Price: $599.99 with free shipping
Lowest By: $159
Expires: Today
Do You Need It?: This is a big laptop for a little price. Featuring an Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz Ivy Bridge quad-core CPU, 17.3" 1080p LED LCD, 12GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, Windows 8, and more, it's back at the best price we've ever seen for any HP ENVY 17" laptop with a 1080p display. A 90-day HP warranty applies.

Total Savings: At least $358

What is the Monitor difference? Tackling the tough headlines – with humanity. Listening to sources – with respect. Seeing the story that others are missing by reporting what so often gets overlooked: the values that connect us. That’s Monitor reporting – news that changes how you see the world.

Dear Reader,

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”

If you’re looking for bran muffin journalism, you can subscribe to the Monitor for $15. You’ll get the Monitor Weekly magazine, the Monitor Daily email, and unlimited access to CSMonitor.com.
