MIT's tuition and fees total $39,212, which are the highest among the Top 5 value universities. But the engineering powerhouse offers need-based grants to 62 percent of their students, which is also the highest percentage of any of the Top 5 universities. The grants on average cover 68 percent of the school's total costs, which allows students of modest means to get a first-rate education.
