The newest trailer for the film adaptation of “Divergent” shows more of the adventures of protagonist Tris.

The movie is based on the first book in the bestselling trilogy by Veronica Roth and stars Shailene Woodley as Tris Prior, a teenage girl who lives in a dystopian version of Chicago.

The trailer explains why Tris’s society is divided into “factions.”

“One hundred years ago, after the war, our founders created a system they believed would create lasting peace,” Tris explains. “They divided society into five factions.”

Tris’s problem is that when she takes a test to determine which faction she belongs with, the results are “inconclusive,” making her a rare member of society known as a “divergent.”

“You’re able to conquer and control your fears,” the test administrator, Tori (Maggie Q), says.

The clip shows Tris choosing a faction, Dauntless, in which to conceal herself, and then doing exercises with her trainer, Four (Theo James). She also finds herself threatened by Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet), the Erudite faction’s leader.

“Divergents threaten the system,” Jeanine tells Tris. “It won’t be safe until they’re removed.”

“Divergent” is set to hit theaters March 21.
